Mary Soliday is a professor of English and the director of Writing across the Curriculum and in the Disciplines at San Francisco State University. She is the author of
Politics of Remediation: Institutional and Student Needs in Higher Education, which won the 2004 CCCC Outstanding Book Award.
"Mary Soliday's study examines precisely where Writing Across the Curriculum meets the intellectual work of the disciplines, within the genres students are asked to produce. This study is of great practical value for all who are engaged in WAC and provides a strong argument why disciplinary faculty should join in the endeavor."-Charles Bazerman, University of California Santa Barbara
"A savvy WPA and insightful scholar, Mary Soliday shows us the fascinating, challenging life of a unique program dedicated to learning through writing. Scrupulously researched and descriptively portrayed, Everyday Genres is both an essential contribution to the literature of WAC/WID program design and a rich, multi-faceted case study of rhetorical understanding and teacher change."-Chris Thaiss, coauthor of
Engaged Writers and Dynamic Disciplines
